72nd Muggia Carnival

Masks, confetti and lots of fun just a stone's throw from Trieste

If you're wondering what to do in February for an authentic and colorful experience, the answer is simple: the Muggia Carnival. From February 12 to 18, 2026, the narrow streets and squares of this picture-perfect village fill with masks, allegorical floats and the irresistible smell of fritters.

Don’t miss

  • Ballo della Verdura and handing over the keys to King Carnival: the official start that immediately makes you feel part of the celebration.
  • The parade of allegorical floats (Sunday, February 15 at 1:00 PM): the highlight of the week, featuring 8 historic Carnival groups, over 2,000 participants, 9 marching bands and around 30 floats.
  • The funeral of Carnival: closes the week with a mix of folklore and irony.

In addition to these symbolic events, there are shows and popular traditions every day.

Come funziona?

Non-residents need to buy a QR code (€10 per family unit) via an app to enter the historic center. Don’t worry, the main parades and some traditional events remain free and open to everyone.
